Interesting perspective. It's too soon for me to judge the warmth from the friendliness - not just because I've only been here a few days but also because cities are never a good way to judge an entire people. Shall share my observations towards the end of the trip :)

Good to meet another staycation-ist ;) I stayed at the Oberoi in Bombay once (while I still did the corporate drill), but I have to say my experience wasn't half as good as Taj. Give Taj a try the next time, and tell me how you compare!

I understand, it never tempted me either. But having given it a try, it is a great way to rejuvenate after a stressful week without travelling too far. Let me know how it goes when you do try it out!

Haha, luckily no one's refused me a visa yet, though the Spain embassy has been so stingy in granting me a long term Schengen - it's literally the date I enter to the date I leave. Makes me never want to apply for a Schengen again, but I hope I'll have to soon ;)

Sometimes I wish I had enrolled myself in a medical school; it's a profession I really look upto. And truth be told, it opens you up to so many travel options - medical care is much needed in remote parts of India, and what better reason to travel than to offer it? Take your family and kid too a few years from now, I'm sure they'll thank you for it.
For the time being, I'd recommend that you experiment with homestays in parts of India that are accessible. We have some lovely trie(...)
