Good review... loved the line "If only all it took to change a man was fair skin, white clothes and a borderline imbecile."... :)... As I came out of the theatre I began comparing this to movies that I was disappointed with... just to know where it falls on that scale!... Shameful by mani... only silver linings are Rajiv Menon, Vairamuthu & ARR... to a lesser extent Madhan Karky...

Wow Bhavia... Your best so far! Goddd those Lungi-lifting Londas! I remember throwing a stone at one (near Nadakkav). But my aim was sooo pathetic that it hit the traffic police on the ankle. I was horrified & bolted.
These days I carry pepper spray everywhere and my policy is 'when in doubt, spray'. I know its bad & there's a possibility that I might hit innocent people. What to do.

It is beyond disgusting Sangi. And yet so true.
I footed the bill for my wedding - absolutely put my foot down on that one.
My room-mate's mom was visiting just as I was doing all the arrangements long-distance, and she was plain horrified that my father did not consider his duty to splurge on his daughter's wedding. This was the wife of a big-shot Finance Secretary types, Harvard educated blah blah blah. Beti ki shaadi toh maa-baap ka karam hai, sabse bada dharam hai etc she(...)

The couple in Q are post grads - she states that both have done their MS (Master in Science) together in the same university. She also says she has a good career going.
Also I suppose it is different living in India as a person of Indian origin, versus one who is not. Our Scottish friend was asked for a much higher rent, our German friends' helps expect much higher salaries, even roadside veggie-sellers and auto guys charge higher amounts from white folks.
While this is not fair(...)

Was talking to a friend today - their's is exactly the same situation as yours. They have 2 kids. The husband wants to move back, the wife doe snot because she knows she will have to live with in-laws which she is not comfortable with. Both of them are good friends of mine, so both have told me separately why/why not they want to move. Both have a point but I would still be biased towards the wife because *she* is expected to make masses of 'adjustments', while the guy happily gets (...)

For once I do not agree with the spirit of the post.
If I take a random sample of ten women in my group of friends, I find every single husband an involved and equal parent. Having known some of them before they had children, I'd say having kids has rounded off their rough edges.

I think most folks hardly even know what they are getting into when they think 'marriage'. Mainly because they have hardly interacted with the other gender. They dont know a red flag when it is being waved in their face.
A partial solution could be to let young men and women mix with each other, let them party, let them hold hands even *gasp*, let them make mistakes and learn.
And stereotypes exist for a reason, no?!

On the other hand, they might decide to be happy that you are happy once they are done with the initial tantrums! Parents are strange animals - trust me, I am one myself ;)
I'd say you should totally find someone yourself. However long it takes.

Will add to say this: I realise you seem to only be meeting only museum pieces and therefore might think you will have to choose from this pool only. But IMO it is better not being married than being married to an idiot who will totally ruin your happiness.

I was looking for places to go running in bangalore. I'm happy that I hit your blog! You cannot imagine how happy I am to know that I can run in bangalore. I was raised in US and now my Husband and me have decided to move back permanently to India. You won't believe what my main concern was - Where do I get to run! I run 5 miles a day and definitely need this everyday of my life.
Would you know if there is any track or lane for joggers/walkers?
So thank you for your post!

'I am frequently told that I am lucky to be married to someone like him. '
I stopped reading here dear letter-writer. I am told this too and very often, but both my husband and I think it is a half-truth. He is ALSO lucky to be married to me - is the other part of the whole truth that we believe.
I think we need to stop having low expectations from the men.

All true. I think the failure of the rains is across the peninsula though - it is warmer everywhere. My Chennai pal has been cribbing big time about the heat.
But I think this is the way every city is going. Urban existence is pretty much unsustainable in the long run.
At least the weather remains better than everywhere else though.

Just leave him. Your happiness matters more than everything.
