'It is vacation time at Kerala. Schools will re open on June 1st. Generally it coincides with the arrival of monsoons. Children wearing school uniforms going to school holding colourful umbrellas is a spectacular sight to watch. For the first timers it can be an emotional turbulent time as well. For a photographer seeking the emotions of a new school year, this is the right time. I was after a woodpecker to photograph it. Unfortunately I could get a good pose from it, and the c(...)'

'Kerala was the trade hub for the Dutch, British, Portuguese and Arabs centuries ago, and pepper was the main attraction. Kerala produces best of pepper, cardamom, nutmegs etc. Most of the tourists buy these to take home. The photograph here is a macro shot using a canon extension tube on a canon 550d. For the blue background I kept two blue bottles around a couple of feet behind the subject.'

'Puttu, will go with a whole lot of curries. Of these, puttu with kadala, puttu with payaru, puttu with egg curry, puttu with beef are the most famous. As mentioned before, puttu will go with any curry. Since it is steamed, no need to worry about cholestrol. Even if crab has high cholestrol content, the most exotic puttu combination I have ever tasted is the puttu with njandu (crab) masala. It is really tasty and at the same time really spicy, which is best when quenched with a zip o(...)'

'Almost extinct, traditional outfit of the Kerala catholic woman known as chattayum mundum. It was more of an art to wear this, with the perfect frills behind known as njerry. The present generation do not use this. So, if you see someone with this dress, you are lucky, because you may not see another one during your entire trip and life itself. Before capturing a photo, either get their permission or take the risks associated with street photography. '
